This position is directly involved in providing transit services to the citizens of Billings. The Transit Customer Services Dispatcher will perform transit scheduling, routing and dispatching duties, operate a variety of communication equipment including a two-way radio and telephone systems, utilize computer dispatching and scheduling systems, as well as handle customer service related duties including (but not limited to) fare media sales and answering of general inquiries. The successful applicant will create, maintain and monitor computerized driver manifest/schedules, client data, routing status and progress, and provide general direction to the transit vehicle operators, respond to requests for service and provide information to passengers and the public.Applicant must have a high degree of understanding of department or functional operations and be able to work with considerable initiative. Working under management guidance, applicant is able to make non-routine choices within established procedures as well as solve problems through the use of data interpretation and analysis. Applicant will manage the day to day issues/problems/complaints from customers and drivers and redirect major issues to the Transit Supervisor. Applicant will respond to customers' needs in a timely and professional manner and carefully communicate abilities and inabilities of the transit and paratransit system. Applicant must have the ability to exercise discretion regarding confidential matters. Applicant will provide supervision and training to support staff. Applicant must have the ability to work flexible shifts to cover operational needs.The successful applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.This position is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing, along with a state and federal criminal background check.Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday with occasional Saturday work required. Work schedule may vary based on operational needs.Salary: $16.70 per hour plus benefits.Minimum Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent.- One or more years of combined education and experience in the customer service, dispatching, transit, or a related field.Preferred Skills:- Experience with city government and knowledge of department and function operations.Equal Opportunity Employer.
