Receives and processes specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Receives and prepares for testing, various types of body fluids and/or tissue, following established procedure to ensure the integrity and positive identification of the specimen submitted.
• Logs and accessions specimen and test information (manual or computerized).
• Picks up or delivers specimens/supplies (i.e., blood units, pathology specimens).
• Assists with various clerical duties (i.e., verification of blood and reference laboratory invoices).
Answers telephone and responds to inquiries regarding the appropriate specimen. Requirements for various laboratory tests.
Stores, directs and disposes patient specimens according to established procedure.
• Maintains a clean and organized work area; and adequate supplies as specified for each Section.
Prints reports/logs, evaluates and follows up discrepancies to ensure that all specimens have been accounted for and processed.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients, having the ability to assess data reflective of such patients' status, identifying each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and applying the principles of growth and development of such patients.
• By maintaining high standards of excellence, helps the Medical Center fulfill its mission by providing compassionate care and respecting the dignity of others. Applies the principles of "continuous quality improvement" which includes working cooperatively with colleagues and projecting a service orientation toward all.

EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
- Or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Able to operate biologic safety hood, autoclave, microtome, bone saw and centrifuge.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of organization.
Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral , diagram, or schedule form
PAY RANGE: $ 27.01 - $ 33.58 / hour
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
