Optum is seeking a Director of Actuarial Product Development to help lead build-out of our payer data analytic offerings under our StepWise product suite. You will oversee the creation of a series of health care data analytics and intelligence processing engines to deliver repeatable analytics that we offer to our customers. You will predict healthcare costs, risk, and utilization using machine learning tools and build complex data processing algorithms to support various financial and actuarial analytics. You will have access to modern analytics infrastructure and technologies and the support of established data engineering and production development teams to see your models realized on a regular basis.

Drive the evolution of new healthcare data analytics and machine learning intelligence offerings at Optum
Collaborate with Optum’s Actuaries to design and build solutions to support financial and actuarial analytics for healthcare companies
Mentor and train junior staff with your proven and applied Data Science expertise
Work closely with key stakeholders and other business and technology leaders to frame the vision and requirements that will drive measurable advancement of enterprise Healthcare Data Analytics objectives
Communicate findings and insights to a variety of audiences, from machine-learning experts to business partners

Bachelor’s Degree in quantitative field, computer science, statistics, actuarial sciences, applied mathematics or similar
5+ Years performing complex data analytics using SQL, SAS, Python, R or similar technologies
3+ Years leading an analytic team and driving analytic deliverables
Extensive applied experience working with complex data structures, performing deep analytics etc.
Experience building actuarial or financial projection models

Experience working with healthcare claims data
Associate/Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, or experience working as an actuary / working with actuaries
Knowledge of health care actuarial concepts - pricing, underwriting, stop loss reinsurance, reserves etc.
Experience with predictive analytics, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence
Experience with various big data environments and technologies: Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Azure Analytics/ML, IBM Watson, SAS, Amazon ML, and others
Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in quantitative field, computer science, statistics, actuarial sciences, applied mathematics or similar
Strong knowledge of data mart / data warehouse design to support optimal real-time analytics
