Business summary

The Telco Cloud Operations (TCOps) platform development team is looking for a skilled software developer to join the team. TCOps is a real-time automated service assurance solution designed to bridge the gap between the virtual and physical worlds. It provides integrated monitoring and network management across all layers for rapid insights, lower costs and improved customer experience. TCOps is built on a modern, microservice architecture, offering a web-based user interface and dashboard, high-performance streaming services, and an extensible platform for data collection, fault and performance management.

Job role and responsibility

The deployment developer will be join the a small team responsible for maintaining and developing deployment and inter-operation with the underlying microservice infrastructure of the TCOps and associated products.

This team is responsible for building features and functions to support:

  • Deployment of TCOps clusters on bare metal or virtualized infrastructure, including standing up a microservice infrastructure and attaching storage

  • Cluster management and operations, including facilities to monitor, add or remove underlying compute or storage capacity

  • Updating and patching a cluster

  • Backing up and restoring configuration and data from a cluster

  • Backstopping the Global Support Services and field teams to support deployment in diverse customer environments, including bare metal, virtualized, and public cloud (Azure, AWS) infrastructure

The team will also assist other teams in ensuring that their services conform to the specific requirements for TCOps and to microservice best practices in general.

The successful candidate is expected to play a technical leadership role, and will be responsible for:

  • Maintenance of existing streaming features

  • Analysing feature requirements

  • Scoping and preparing estimates for new features, and actively contributing to the release planning process

  • Preparing functional specifications and designs for new features

  • Implementing new features, including implementation of test automation suites

  • Collaborating with system architects, management, and peers to drive projects to completion

  • Leading small (2-3 developer) teams to deliver high-quality features and functionality on time

  • Preparing documentation and training materials for streaming features

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in an Agile development environment with a geographically distributed team, in close collaboration with other development teams (often in other geographies) and external stakeholders such as release, product and program managers.

Required skills

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science or related field

  • 10+ years software development experience

  • Extensive experience in UNIX/Linux system management and software development

  • Extensive experience with virtualized infrastructure, such as VMware ESXi, vCenter, and vCloud Director

  • Extensive experience with microservice architectures, Docker and Kubernetes, including direct experience building and deploying enterprise-grade 12 factor applications

  • Experience with enterprise software deployment to public clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure

  • Experience with git, Jenkins, JIRA and Confluence (or similar)

  • Proficient in Go and/or Java

  • Proficient with shell scripting, and scripting languages such as Python or Groovy

  • Experience with test automation using junit or similar frameworks

  • Attention to detail and quality focus

Preferred skills

  • Experience with Harbor (or similar) container registry

  • Experience with Helm

  • Experience with VMware Photon OS

  • Experience with Envoy proxy
