Robert Half Legal Assistant in Baltimore, Maryland
Description
Legal Assistants support lawyers directly and may be required to supervise other legal staff such as legal secretaries or file clerks. The ideal Legal Assistant will have sound technical and computer knowledge as well as excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills. Three to five years of legal experience in a law firm or other corporate legal department may be preferred.
Your responsibilities:
House e-documents and files
Organize documents for photo copier and scanner
Maintain organization for matter management and record keeping
Lead computer database input and retrieval
Look through a variety of court and agency web sites and collect relevant content
Complete word processing, filing and faxing
Finalize correspondence and memorandum
Group documents and assemble data as directed by lawyers and paralegals
Ensure there are no errors in document copies, as the originals
Delegate legal research and investigative tasks, including obtaining information or documents from outside parties, as directed
Requirements
2+ years of relevant experience
Investigating the factual evidence of a transaction or case and preparing exhibits, charts and diagrams to display information
Organizing and tracking files for important transactions or case documents, including pleadings and voluminous discovery documents; creating and maintaining a case-management database
Drafting legal court documents, such as pleadings, motions, affidavits and subpoenas; transactional documents, such as trusts, wills, contracts and real estate leases; and closing documents
Answering Inbound Calls experience
Legal research experience
Expertise in Microsoft
Experience assisting lawyers in preparing for transactional closings, depositions, hearings, trials and conferences; completing many administrative tasks, including, working on individual cases or transactions
Conducting routine discovery
