GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
This position manages a team of experienced underwriting professionals. Accountable for the management of a regional underwriting team to ensure profit and growth targets are met in alignment with the overall Group Protection strategy. Directs and monitors the underwriting activities for the region directly and through a front-line manager. Responsible for the development of critical skills and technical training of team members.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains knowledge on current and emerging trends. Incorporates new trends and developments in current and future solutions to meet business objectives
Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management
Identifies and directs the implementation of process improvements that increase efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsible for the development of staff through identification of skill gaps targeted to both business and individual career needs.
Ensures employees understand expectations and results, receive regular feedback and are appropriately assessed and rewarded.
Establishes and implements priorities, performance goals and objectives to ensure group results for area of responsibility.
Directs and provides leadership to continually improve the capability and results of the team.
Participates in the identification and selection of talent including hiring and staffing.
Identifies and analyzes risks and formulates balanced decisions on the pricing of prospective offers, in force business, renewal business and implementation of block strategy.
Drives results and is held accountable for profit, persistency and growth objectives for assigned area of responsibility.
Actively works with appropriate internal stakeholders to ensure strong alignment between target setting process, underwriting and sales execution, and collaboration related to non-standard pricing items.
Forges strong professional relationships with key partners (internal and external), with strong emphasis on collaboration with Actuarial and Distribution partners.
Drives a disciplined, proactive and timely approach to reporting on execution results.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/ordemonstrated leadership experience. (Required)
Excellent knowledge of Group benefits products and underwriting methodologies
Demonstrated ability and experience to establish strong relationships with the customer and sales base.
Highly developed oral and written communication skills, and strong presentation skills are essential.
BS/BA in a business related discipline plus a minimum of 7 years of Group underwriting, or related experience required.
