Drug Enforcement Administration Data Scientist in Arlington, Virginia

Summary This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Arlington, VA. This position(s) primary purpose is to support the Diversion Control Division (DC), Office of Diversion Control Operations (DO), Targeting & Special Projects Section (DOI), Targeting & Special Projects Unit (DOIT). Responsibilities As a your typical work assignments may include: Representing the Diversion Control Division in support of the field activities, research and information gathering that shows evidence of non-compliance to federal and state drug policies. Uses data management systems and interfaces to organize data into logical information management formats. Developing learning tools, algorithms and queries to analyze diversion, commercial and proprietary data. Determining data science techniques that could lead to effective reporting and analysis of information gathering. Advising personnel in the appropriate data science techniques for organizing, analyzing, communicating and visualizing data. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of the announcement. Applicants must meet the Basic Requirements AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Basic Qualification Requirements--Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience. AND Specialized Experience Required. GS-14: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties: 1) Leading and directing projects, studies and assessments of data collection methodologies; 2) Overseeing the collection, analysis and strategies used to organize information in data systems; 3) Developing models, trends and visualizations of data to make efficient decisions; and 4) Conducting technical reports and presentations to convey the use of data gathering. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
