Sensata Technologies, Inc. Senior Software Developer (Smart & Connected) in Antrim, United Kingdom

Sensata Technologies is recruiting a Senior Software Engineer for the development of the cloud infrastructure, mobile apps and web portal as part of the full-stack solution in our Smart & Connected growth initiative within the Sensata Ventures organization.

Commercial fleets are seeking to deploy smart and connected devices across trucks and trailers in order to generate actionable insights to reduce operating costs, improve uptime and enhance safety. As a Senior Cloud Developer you will work within a cross-functional team to architect, develop, maintain and improve the Sensata cloud platform and deliver unique insights which provide high value to our end customers.

The selected candidate will join a highly motivated and growing team within a new ventures organization at Sensata charged with incubating and commercializing new technologies. As a Senior Developer on the team you will be expected to have a strong voice in the development of future strategy across the cloud platform and mobile applications.


General Responsibilities

  • Handles the developing of complex software in selected languages for Sensata products and/or applications consistently following Sensata’s coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodology and release processes

  • Leads the development of software to control external hardware for automated test equipment and other applicable development

  • Leads software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process

  • Oversees and executes designs for small sets of new functionality as part of a software project

  • Oversees peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions

Experience / Qualifications

  • A university degree and 6+ years of experience (i.e. Bachelors degree) or a graduate degree and 4-6 years of experience (i.e. Masters degree) or a higher level degree and 2-4years of experience (i.e. Doctorate degree)

  • Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation

  • Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results

  • Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity

  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

  • Strong interpersonal & collaboration skills to work effectively with all levels of the organization including suppliers and/or external customers


Responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement and deploy highly scalable microservices into the cloud.

  • Design, implement and release highly robust mobile applications.

  • Employ a variety of languages and tools to integrate different systems.

  • Supporting all aspects of the software product life-cycle, from initial software requirements capture, architectural design, coding design, implementation, test and release.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to coach, mentor and motivate team members.

  • Collaborate with other team members to establish best practices and maintainable processes.

  • Advocate a culture of high quality software development.

  • Promote positive disruption to challenge the status quo and encourage an environment of continuous improvement and learning.

Preferred characteristics include:

  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Vue.Js, Docker, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Web development, APIs, JavaScript, Web security protocols, Azure EventHub, Azure Functions, Azure Active Directory

  • Experience with several different software languages such a Python, C++, Node.JS, Java, SQL

  • Knowledge of API standards and how to work with them.

  • Experience with CI/CD

  • Experience developing on MS Azure platform.

  • Experience with JIRA and GitLab would be beneficial

  • Experience using Agile methodology, preferably Scrum: writing user stories, sprint planning, story estimation and sprint retrospectives etc.

Please note that occasional travel will be required for equipment installation and support
