SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform maintenance and repair of company fleet vehicles which includes gas and diesel engines, while supervising on-site mechanics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspects and diagnoses mechanical issues.
Diagnoses and repairs computerized control systems, ignition systems, power steering, and cooling and heating systems.
Overhauls, repairs, rebuilds and adjusts engines, transmissions, differentials and clutches; replaces or repairs faulty parts.
Assists Fleet Manager in coordinating work assignments with on-site mechanics and off-site repair facilities to ensure that repairs and maintenance are completed in a timely manner.
Supervises 2nd shift on-site mechanics, which may include making recommendations for hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
Supervises on-site mechanics, which may include making recommendations for hiring, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
Repairs, adjusts and replaces brake systems.(as per FMCSR 396.25 regulation)
Performs preventive maintenance of vehicles according to schedule.
Maintains organization and cleanliness of shop and parts areas.
Welds equipment as needed.
Travels to branches to perform repairs on an occasional basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Requires completion of a related post-secondary program. Applicable experience may be substituted for education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A valid class D driver's license is required with satisfactory completion of a Motor Vehicle Check according to Vehicle Safety Policy.
CDL A license preferred or must obtain within one year of employment (company may assist).
Forklift certification required (company will provide).
Working knowledge of the methods, equipment and techniques used in vehicle repair and maintenance
Skill in using power and hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
Utilizes personal tools.
DOT Certification is a plus.
